Research Interests:
Dr. Bursian is interested in the toxicity of chemicals of industrial, agricultural or natural origin on domestic animals or wildlife species maintained in a laboratory setting.  His recent research has focused on the reproductive effects of environmentally derived  polyhalogenated compounds such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polychlorinated dibenzodioxins (PCDDs), polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) on fish-eating mammals.  He has also examined the effects of these types of chemicals on the embryos of a number of domestic and wild avian species.  Data generated by his laboratory are used in conducting environmental risk assessments.
