Research Interests:
Dr. Maher's research concentrates on determining the molecular and cellular mechanisms involved in the induction of the DNA changes (mutations) that occur in human cells when they are exposed to ultraviolet or ionizing radiation or chemical carcinogens. She studies the role of DNA replication, mitotic hemologous recombination, and various types of DNA repair mechanisms. Dr. Maher's research interests related to toxicology fall under the broad umbrella of biochemical toxicology and include cytotoxic, mutagenic and transforming effects.
