Research Interests:
Dr. Robinson studies the mechanisms of lung dysfunction in domestic animals and humans. His work includes equine airway disease; automatic regulation of airway smooth muscle; mucus secretion; neuromuscular regulation of nasopharynx; and the therapy of airway disease. Dr. Robinson has been investigating the pathogenesis of chronic, noninfectious airway disease, particularly heaves (formerly known as COPD) in horses. His interests range from the basic science of autonomic regulation of airways and mucus secretion to clinical methods for the treatment of chronic airway disease, especially the use of bronchodilators and corticosteroids. He directs the Equine Pulmonary Research Laboratory at MSU which is dedicated to studying the pathogenesis and treatment of diseases of the air passages (airways) of the horse.
