The long term goals are to understand how ribotoxic agents cause acute and chronic diseases; and to find strategies to prevent/treat illnesses that may arise from exposure to ribotoxins. The objective of this proposal is to test the hypothesis that ribotoxins induce a cascade of signaling events in the ribosome, which include mobilization and activation of signaling molecules, and cleavage of ribosomal RNA (rRNA) during the ribotoxic stress response.
