Positions

A Ph.D. is required, and post-doctoral research or professional experience is desired. Preference will be given to an appointment at the Assistant Professor level but applicants with outstanding credentials may be considered at higher ranks. The successful candidate will have primary teaching responsibilities for quantitative analysis and instrumentation, supervise both undergraduate and graduate students in the laboratory, and contribute to the graduate programs in Chemistry and Environmental Sciences. Experience in teaching a breadth of course offerings will be an asset. The United States Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is recruiting for a biological scientist to support its plant pest control programs. The biological scientist develops field monitoring protocols for generating data suitable for evaluating the effects of assigned APHIS pest and disease control programs on human health and the environment. Provides leadership for coordinating and conducting training of field personnel in the skills necessary to implement environmental monitoring plans (EMP) and continuously provides technical support to field personnel to assure successful completion of EMPs. Analyzes all available data, reports findings and makes recommendations to the appropriate APHIS program management regarding how operational programs could be altered to reduce any detected or potential adverse effects on human health or the environment. Provides final review and recommendations for environmental monitoring protocols and reports, participates with operational personnel, interacts with Departmental agencies, and supports compliance of APHIS programs under applicable environmental statutes. The incumbent recommends modifications to procedures, provides general direction, and reviews monitoring activities to assure the attainment of environmental monitoring objectives. The University of Florida College of Public Health and Health Professions and the Emerging Pathogens Institute seeks applicants for a director/professor position. This position will lead the College in development of a department of environmental health, chair the department when established, and serve as a key point of liaison with the newly established University of Florida Emerging Pathogens Institute.
