Positions

The Center for Integrative Toxicology (CIT) at Michigan State University invites applications for a tenure-track academic year faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in chemical carcinogenesis or developmental toxicology. The CIT has over 40 affiliated faculty members and administers a Superfund Program Project grant and a Training grant, both awarded by the NIH, NIEHS. We are seeking candidates with expertise in either chemical carcinogenesis or developmental toxicology to strengthen our growing interest in these areas. Candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in Toxicology or a related discipline, postdoctoral research experience and demonstrated success in obtaining extramural funding. This position involves a joint appointment in the CIT and in a biomedical science department (e.g., Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Food Science and Human Nutrition, Pharmacology & Toxicology, Physiology) consistent with his/her expertise and interests. In addition to contributing to the CIT, the candidate will have the opportunity to participate in one or more other interdisciplinary research and training programs including the National Food Safety and Toxicology Center, the Center for Biological Modeling, Breast Cancer and the Environment Research Centers and the Genetics and Neuroscience Programs. He/she will be expected to establish and maintain an independent and extramurally-funded research program and to contribute to the teaching and service missions of the department and the CIT. Honeywell seeks applicants for The Global Leader Toxicology & Risk Assessment to provide leadership and functional expertise for testing and assessing the health, safety, and environmental hazards and risks associated with existing and new products in Specialty Materials.  This position would report to the Global Director SM Toxicology. Responsibilities include: develops and manages programs to prioritize, characterize, and communicate risk to meet international, national, and other requirements (including REACH and Responsible Care Global Product Strategy); represents SM on chemical consortia involved in risk characterizations and registrations; participates in the SM Global Product Stewardship Advocacy Process for Product Stewardship  activities, trade associations, governmental and non-governmental committees, etc. (e.g. CEFIC, ECETOC); responsible for preparation of chemical safety assessments and reports under REACH; working with the Global Leader SM Product Regulatory, assists in the maintenance and improvement of SAP-EHS and other systems for knowledge management and compliance assurance; takes the lead on toxicology, ecotoxicology, and related risk information; establishes processes & tools for product risk assessment according to SM HSE management system standards, including criteria for a screening level assessment & those requiring a more thorough review; responsible for risk assessments meeting criteria for more thorough review; working with SM Global Product Stewardship colleagues, responsible for determining testing needs to support product registrations or other internal or external requirements for information needs; oversees test programs; assists in the development of global New Product Registration dossiers; provide technical support for product risk assessments and characterizations; in conjunction with the Global Leader - SM Product Regulatory, monitors and interprets Global Product Stewardship Regulations and also provides policy support.  Qualifications include: M.S. or Ph.D. in toxicology, pharmacology, chemistry or related field; minimum 5 years experience in Health, Safety and Environment or Regulatory Affairs; strong computer skills; experience in European regulatory affairs a plus; experience in the chemical industry is highly desirable; ability to read/speak an additional European language a plus (i.e., French, German); global experience, i.e., knowledge and management experience working with global  regulations; effective communicator, i.e.,  demonstrated ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization, verbally and in writing; able to interact comfortably with business and operations leaders to establish credibility and influence where necessary; intelligent risk taker, i.e., judgment and a strong ethical framework, allowing the individual to make correct decisions instinctively, balanced with an appreciation for the pressures which business people confront; leadership impact, i.e., demonstrated program, project and people leadership; able to set strategic direction and manage resources required for implementation; creativity, energy, dependability and organizational skills that will enable management of multiple priorities; teamwork and diversity: Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to influence; gets results, i.e., comfort with a high degree of responsibility coupled with initiative, capacity to work independently and dedication to producing high quality work product; capability to tactically implement and bring projects to closure in a timely manner.  Applicants must apply online at http://www.honeywell.com/careers/jobsearch.html to be considered for this position.  Please use the requisition ID # 60065 in the search to locate the posting.
