Positions

The Center for Integrative Toxicology (CIT) at Michigan State University invites applications for a tenure-track academic year faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in chemical carcinogenesis or developmental toxicology. The CIT has over 40 affiliated faculty members and administers a Superfund Program Project grant and a Training grant, both awarded by the NIH, NIEHS. We are seeking candidates with expertise in either chemical carcinogenesis or developmental toxicology to strengthen our growing interest in these areas. Candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in Toxicology or a related discipline, postdoctoral research experience and demonstrated success in obtaining extramural funding. This position involves a joint appointment in the CIT and in a biomedical science department (e.g., Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Food Science and Human Nutrition, Pharmacology & Toxicology, Physiology) consistent with his/her expertise and interests. In addition to contributing to the CIT, the candidate will have the opportunity to participate in one or more other interdisciplinary research and training programs including the National Food Safety and Toxicology Center, the Center for Biological Modeling, Breast Cancer and the Environment Research Centers and the Genetics and Neuroscience Programs. He/she will be expected to establish and maintain an independent and extramurally-funded research program and to contribute to the teaching and service missions of the department and the CIT. Dupont is looking for toxicologists to join their multi-disciplinary team responsible for ensuring the safety of DuPont products and manufacturing processes in Europe. The positions are likely to be based in Brussels or Geneva. Key responsibilities include advising DuPont businesses on chemical exposure assessment and toxicological issues, in particular on compliance with the requirements of the new EU Chemical Policy (REACH); supporting the preparation of substance registration dossiers, with general responsibility for use and exposure data gathering and subsequent chemical safety assessments; representing DuPont in various national and international Trade Association Groups;  establishing and maintaining an external network with academic, industrial and regulatory contacts; anticipating new developments in toxicology, in particular in regulatory toxicology and risk assessment.   Key requirements include a D.V.M. or PhD or a MSc with several years of related experience; experience in various aspects of mammalian toxicology and exposure assessment; able to network effectively in a matrix organization; strong team player; and excellent oral and written communication skills. The Department of Chemistry and Environmental Science at the New Jersey Institute of Technology invites applications for a non-tenure track lectureship in environmental science and policy beginning September 2007. The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in environmental policy or another appropriate field and have interests in the area of environmental and/or industrial sustainability. The successful candidate will teach three courses per semester and contribute to the research program in the department. Primary teaching responsibilities include instruction of an introductory environmental social science course at the undergraduate level. Opportunity exists to teach in the graduate program in environmental science and policy. Oak Ridge Associated Universities seeks a Toxicologist 2 for conducting health assessments of hazardous chemicals.  Responsibilities include: Conducting reviews of toxicological research on biological and environmental effects of hazardous chemicals and working closely with federal agency scientists to ensure assessments address key issues. Developing, preparing, and implementing the Quality Assurance process and the Quality Assurance Project Plan. Ensuring development of the written health assessments and summary sheets for each chemical based on federal agency specifications and revising and reviewing standard operating procedures as appropriate based on customer and peer review. Working to develop proposals, work plans, and budgets. Interfacing with specialists and consultants on project teams. PhD in Toxicology, Biochemistry or related physical or biological science and up to one year job related experience. Must have experience writing toxicological reviews and summaries, participating in teams for scientific reviews and report preparation, and in developing work plans and budgets. Should have expertise in environmental toxicology and biochemistry, with a working knowledge of risk assessment, human health sciences, biomedical research and quantitative dose response analysis desired.
