The University of Michigan Center for Risk Science and Communication presents the 2007 Bernstein Symposium: Nanotechnology and Health: Evidence and Impact on October 25-26, 2007 at the Biomedical Science Research Building (BSRB) 109 Zina Pitcher, Ann Arbor, Michigan. The Center, under the leadership of Dr. Martin Philbert, has put together a program that will bring together leading scientists and policymakers to examine the emerging field of nanotechnology, its potential impact on human health, and the growing debate over whether and how to regulate nanotechnology products. A broad array of expert speakers will present including Christine Todd Whitman, former MI U.S. Rep. Joe Schwartz, Risk Perception law expert Dan Kaham, EPA administrator George Gray, NIOSH Nano Group member David Warheit, and NPR Science Reporter Richard Harris. Positions
The Department of Anesthesiology Perioperative Medicine and Pain Management, the University of Miami, invites applications for appointment at the level of Post-Doctoral Fellow/Scientist from candidates with hands-on experience with molecular and cellular biology including documented scholarly achievements involving the use of molecular, cellular, histological or biochemical assays. A PhD; MD; or DVM with a minimum of 1+ year of experience with mouse genetics and in vivo models is required. Qualified candidates should possess: laboratory experience in molecular and cellular biology, in situ hybridization, quantitative PCR, RNA interference, immunohistochemistry, ELISA, microarray technology, murine genetics, and transgenic model development. A proven working knowledge of cloning, cell culture, PCR, RT-PCR, protein expression and analysis is required. Additional experience with FACS, conditional gene targeting, pharmacology, and drug development, are a plus. Good oral/written communication skills, problem-solving, flexibility, and the ability to integrate detailed analysis into a larger disease-oriented context are expected. The Department of Anesthesiology Perioperative Medicine and Pain Management, the University of Miami, invites applications for appointment at the level of Research Assistant Professor from candidates familiar with in vivo models and mouse genetics. A PhD; and/or MD; and/or DVM with a minimum of 3+ years of postdoctoral experience with a strong background in with mouse genetics and in vivo models is required. Qualified candidates should possess: laboratory experience in murine genetics, transgenic model development and characterization, gene mapping, pulmonary exposure systems, measurements of pulmonary physiology, collection of bronchoalveolar lavage, cell counts and differentials, pulmonary tissue examination, and animal handling. The ability to integrate diverse sets of information and work within a multi-disciplinary team is required. In addition, experience in molecular and cell biology, in situ hybridization, quantitative PCR, immunohistochemistry, pharmacology, and drug development, are a plus. In addition to supporting and establishing an innovative and interactive research program, new faculty will engage in the mentoring of clinical faculty and fellows and the training of undergraduate, graduate, and medical students, as the department is located in the School of Medicine. The Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health at Georgia Southern University invites nominations and applications for tenure track positions in environmental health sciences, epidemiology, and health services policy and management. The successful applicants will teach graduate-level courses to students in the M.P.H. and Dr.P.H. programs;
be actively involved in extramurally funded, multidisciplinary research; and provide
service/outreach to the public health community. Successful candidates will be expected to
provide academic and research advisement to students, promote and sustain
interdisciplinary dialogue, hold active membership in professional associations, and serve on
committees and participate in official activities at the college and university levels. The
positions are 9-month appointments, and the salaries are competitive and commensuratewith qualifications and experience.
Screening of applications begins October 19, 2007, and continues until the positions are
filled. The position starting dates are August 1, 2008. A complete application consists of a
